Week 15: I remembered it

a glass

Sunday, June 29
Exhausted from yesterday’s dance battle. I did nothing but lie down and stay hydrated.

Earthquakes keep occurring on the southern island of Japan. The media is busy covering someone’s prediction that a massive earthquake will hit on July 5th. It reminds me of the buzz around the 1999 prediction. I still have the clipped magazine article that asked, “What would you do if the world ended in 1999?”. I wonder what all those respondents are doing now.

I once read an interview with Nassim Nicholas Taleb, where he said something like: “The only way to say ‘fuck you’ to the goddess of destiny is to show that how you live won’t change no matter how destiny turns out. That’s why you should still shave your beard even if you’re destined to be executed”. (Not his exact words―but translated from Japanese)

The earthquakes are still happening frequently. I checked our emergency supplies, reviewed my schedule, and shaved my beard.

an envelope made with a paper

Thursday, July 3
I saw a Japanese music video full of 90s-00s (mid Heisei-era) references. I tried folding a piece of paper into an envelope, like I used to when I was a Heisei JK. My hands remembered it.

Friday, July 4
I went to the car dealer for a regular checkup. I learned that rabbits with perky ears aren’t suited for taking walks together.

Saturday, July 5
When I stepped into the garden, the pigeon came down from its nest and perched on the branch in front of me. It clearly had something to tell me. I interpreted its silent stare as “I can’t go on like this”. The nest is now empty.
