Week 43: I can’t focus

customized burger

Tuesday, February 3
Currently, I’m at McDonald’s. There’s a box of nuggets and a cup of coffee on my table. I put one packet of sugar and milk in it. There are two college students on my left and six high school boys in front of me. The six boys are looking at the menu on their smartphones. It seems like one of the two college boys ordered a cheeseburger. I can’t see it clearly from my seat, but I’m pretty sure it’s a cheeseburger. The store changed the music, and now they’re playing PomPom Purin’s song. Po-po-pom po-po-pom pom-pom po-po-pow. The six boys are all watching their smartphones. Po-po-pom po-po-pom pom-pom po-po-pow. Two other high school boys enter the premises, and two more high school boys just came in. Apparently they’re not friends with the aforementioned high school boys. As if I’m protected by thick shields, no one sits closer to my seat. I wish this would happen on an airplane. The six boys are getting their orders. They all have shakes, large fries, and burgers. They barely talk to each other. They eat and watch their smartphones. My coffee gets cold. Mom calls. We’re out of dish detergent. I just ordered hamburgers to go. I’m gonna put a lot of lettuce and cheese, maybe a slice of tomato too, to make a customized burger. Better go now.

an omikuji floating on the water

Friday, February 6
We haven’t had proper rain or snow for a while. I watered the trees in our garden a bit, but it didn’t feel like enough for them. So I visited a shrine dedicated to the water god to ask for rain.
