Week 38: a quiet beginning

Monday, December 29
My nephew came to visit and we played Just Dance as usual. We discussed his dance at the Christmas party, and to further improve our dancing skills, we decided to join battles with other players next year. Currently, we are at around 35,000th on their world ranking. And we’re going to climb up the chart with the SpongeBob song.

decorations for new year

Tuesday, December 30
We went grocery shopping for the year end. I know it will be super crowded, so we left home early. I’ve done most of the shopping for the New Year meals (osechi and ozoni), so we just added what was missing. There were already so many people at 9 a.m. The shop said they would open from 3 a.m. tomorrow.

new year decoration and nest box

Wednesday, December 31
I slept well and woke up early. The morning was so beautiful that I kind of misunderstood today as the New Year’s Day. I had soba and shrimp tempura for dinner, took a long bath, and went to bed around eleven. Good night, 2025.

Happy New Year.

There’s an annual New Year marathon taking place in Gunma, and it’s aired on TV. My brother has always been on the street cheering the runners with his workmates. While I was watching the live footage, we texted each other to check his whereabouts and to see if I could spot him on TV. We have tried our best every year, but somehow his spot has always been skipped because of runner interviews or the news. This year was no exception. This is our New Year’s Day ritual.
