Letter #11: Parco
The demoscene-derived event, SESSIONS took place in Tokyo this month. Too bad I couldn’t go, but thanks for sending me reminders 🙂
One of their demos that left me with an impression was “bruh i ain’t naming things” by wrighter x ciosai / Moonbase.
The first thing that came to mind was, “This could be a commercial for PARCO.” I thought it was fashionable.
PARCO is a chain of Japanese fashion buildings. Their flagship store is in Shibuya, Tokyo, and has (or had?) been known to be synonymous with Shibuya culture. PARCO is also famous for its fashion-forward or unorthodox ad campaigns, and it often uses pretty motion graphics for its TV clips.
So after I watched the demo, I browsed their clips. And I realized they made tons of clips even in the 80s… Here are some of the things I found.
Is this Yohji Yamamoto’s? If they change the music, I think it’s still relevant… (or maybe it was way ahead of its time back in 1989).
And this.
Faye Dunaway eating a hard-boiled egg? I don’t know what it means, but I love it.
