Sunday, June 15
It was a really hot day. After a long period of procrastination, I finally washed the big fishbowls for our goldfish and killifish. Afterwards, I drank some cranberry juice.
Monday, June 16
I made marinated horse mackerel and namul for dinner. Because of the heat, my body craves vinegar. Where is the rainy season?

The other day, I heard a story from fans of a certain Japanese boy group. They follow the tours as much as they can. On their latest trip, they happened to run into their favorite members on the street. They panicked and couldn’t do anything, but they described the boys’ beauty as “NEXT LEVEL.” It was so much fun watching them talk.

When Yon-sama became hugely popular in Japan, I was working in Canada. After my South Korean colleague heard about this wild phenomenon, he sat me down and said: “Not all Korean men are like Yon-sama’s innocent character. Remember—we cheat, we fart, and we poo.” I still remember his words whenever I see K-pop idols. Thanks, hyeong.
Thursday, June 19
I couldn’t sleep well. I’m sure I slept a bit, but it didn’t feel like it.
Friday, June 20
I was shocked to hear that a family restaurant I often go to is closing. It’s roomy, quiet, and in a convenient location. (sigh)

I guess the relationship between a boy group and their fans is like a team. To play the role of an “idol,” they need someone to play the role of a “fan.” Without this teamwork, idols become just a group of people blowing kisses at strangers, and fans become people screaming “Marry me!!” at random boys. To me, it looks like the ultimate game of make-believe.
