Letter #24: rich, niche, and absurdly personal

Sunday, April 13 
It was raining all day long. Flowers of chocolate vines looked dreamy in the hazy air. I spent most of the day being horizontal as I was feeling heavy. A lazy Sunday.

Monday, April 14
It was still raining in the morning, but it cleared up before lunch. I really felt the arrival of full-swing spring. Mentally, I’ve been in stay-at-home mode since the pandemic, but I think I should slowly catch up with the world.

Followed by plala and FC2web, goo blog will discontinue its personal web service. All these have provided  free platforms for personal web pages in Japan for 20-30 years. An enormous amount of rich, niche, and absurdly personal content perfect for killing time will be forever lost.

I wonder what fellow GeoCities’ homepage owners are doing right now. I know some are thriving on Twitter, but I presume most of the users are still writing prose somewhere. And we must all know that the end of one service brings us heartache and some relief.

The temperature jumped up. I didn’t feel it that much in my room, but I put my coffee tree outside, hoping it would catch bright sunshine.

I find Expo 2025 Osaka’s official mascot, Myaku-Myaku, cute. But I do not want to come across him in the dark.
